SUMMARY:Fireside Chat with Dr. Shakardokht Jafari
DESCRIPTION:CIC’s Technology Innovation Studio (TINS) is pleased to host a fireside chat with Dr. Shakardokht Jafari. Shakar is Afghani but grew up and was educated in Iran (as a refugee from the Russian invasion). She returned to Afghanistan after the Taliban fell\, resisting three pre-arranged marriages along the way\, to re-establish a cancer facility in Kabul. She went to the UK for additional training\, where she earned a PhD in medical physics\, becoming the first Afghan woman to earn that degree.   \nIn the UK\, and based on her research work\, she founded TrueInvivo (https://www.trueinvivo.co.uk) a start-up company that is developing a proprietary dosimetry (radiation measurement) system to ensure the precision and accuracy of cancer radiotherapy. The product is aimed at improving the outcomes of approximately six million patients\, including three million that are harmed annually by unintentionally inaccurate radiation treatment. TrueInvivo’s CE and UKCA-marked prototype is currently being used at leading hospitals in the UK and Europe for commissioning radiotherapy equipment and verify the accuracy of treatment delivery. The product also has many potential industrial uses.  \nBefore and after the Fireside Chat\, you can enjoy networking with entrepreneurs\, investors and members of the local innovation economy\,including free wine/beer at CIC’s weekly Venture Cafe (4:30PM – 8:00PM). The evening will also feature a special “Colombian Innovation Night” (https://venturecafecambridge.org). \nDetails: \n\n\n Thursday\, May 23\, 2024\n \n\n 04:30 pm – 08:00 pm\n \n\n CIC (Cambridge Innovation Center) One Broadway\, 5th floor\, (room TINS) Kendall Square\, Cambridge\n \n\nJoin us for Fireside Chat with Dr. Shakardokht Jafari \n \n Get Tickets

SUMMARY:Managing through conflict
DESCRIPTION:Problems: Career conflict is a major source of stress\, with several circumstances unique or more prevalent for women. Add in the cultural diversity that affects women in global trade\, and you have a perfect storm of what could go wrong as women embrace global opportunities presented in our current economic climate. Managing through conflict takes skills that we weren’t taught in school or through technical training. \nSolution: This program will outline five common problems women face across trade\, as identified by the key world trade and finance organizations\, and provide Sandbox Strategies for solutions. \nPenny Tremblay\, author of Sandbox Strategies for the NEW Workplace\, [Rowman & Littlefield 2023] shares her expertise\, stories\, and current research of top trends for managing conflict to help participants build productive\, peaceful\, and profitable relationships. \nLearning Outcomes \n●     Understand your role in career conflict \n●      Knowledge of the five common problems women face across trade \n●      How to position yourself as a strong candidate to represent your company at meetings and in decision making processes \n●      Tips to approach difficult conversations and raise concerns effectively \n●      When to listen\, when to speak up\, and when to accept cultural differences for best business outcomes. \nEven though dealing with conflict on an international level is something women in trade face daily\, most conflict resolution is an inside job. Understanding our relationship to conflict can help us not only to move through it\, but learn to embrace it. How much more productive and profitable could women entrepreneurs in world trade be with an assertive and confident approach to resolving the early onset of conflict? \nJoin us for this amazing Webinar\, complimentary!! \n\n\nGet Tickets
