SUMMARY:Trade in Transition: How Election Outcomes May Shape U.S. Trade Relations with the World
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to have hosted Wendy Cutler\, a U.S. diplomat and trade negotiator for nearly three decades at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. \nWendy led U.S. trade negotiations with the Asia-Pacific region\, including serving as chief negotiator for the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement. Before leaving government in 2015\, she rose to become Acting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative. \n\nHaving worked for four Administrations and nine U.S. Trade Representatives\, Wendy shared her insights on the current transition period and how election outcomes shape what an Administration’s trade policy will be.\nWe heard her views on where the United States may be heading with China\, and the opportunities she sees for the United States to partner with other countries on trade and investment issues.\nWendy also shared a first-hand account of what it is like to negotiate trade agreements in a man’s world.\n\nThe discussion was moderated by Betty Robson\, President and Principal of JF Moran\, a national customs broker\, freight forwarder\, and worldwide logistics provider based in Smithfield\, Rhode Island. A great supporter of Women in World Trade\, Betty is also an Associate Professor of Graduate Business Studies at Johnson & Wales University and a past president of both the Boston Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association and the Air Cargo Club of New England.
